My Story

Dr. Kocher earned a BA at Bryn Mawr College, a Master of Public Health degree at UC Berkeley, an MD at St. George's University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies, and earned her psychiatric residency at Albany Medical College in Albany, New York.  During her residency, she worked extensively with young adults who were suffering from depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and schizophrenia, and veterans struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), using medication management and psychodynamic psychotherapy.  Dr. Kocher also involved herself in research on why patients have difficulties attending appointments.

Dr. Kocher states that she strives to provide nonjudgmental, empathetic, and in-depth treatment to all her patients. She gets to know each patient on their mental health, emotional health, physical health, and social health levels — so she is able to give psychotherapeutic recommendations as well as psychiatric medication recommendations. She fully evaluate all psychiatric medications a patient has been on in the past, so she is able to give therapeutic as well as medication-management recommendations to address patient mental health.

Dr. Kocher also says that she attempts to start all patients on medications with the fewest side effects, and if those are not effective, then try medications that potentially have more side effects, but may be more effective for the patient — continuing until the patient finds a medication that works well to balance the efficacy and risk of each medication for each patient.

Dr. Kocher prescribes controlled medications sparingly — especially benzodiazepines, which though they are very effective medications, are medications that, when used excessively, cause tolerance and then addiction, as well as reducing brain neuroplasticity.

When Dr. Kocher is not working, she likes to spend time with her French bulldog, and enjoy the beautiful Miami weather.

Dr. Kocher wishes to welcome you, and offer you a chance to begin or continue your journey to improved mental health.
